UTR, Explained

The Universal Tennis Rating is a 1.00–16.50 global rating that grades every player on the same scale — juniors, college players, and pros. It updates after each match based on the score and your opponent's rating.

UTR predicts how competitive you'll be against a college lineup. A coach can compare a junior in California to one in Florida in seconds — something rankings can't do. It's the closest thing tennis has to a universal currency.

Coaches build target lists by UTR band first, then dig into ranking, results, video, and academics. If your UTR is below a program's playing roster, you usually won't get past the first email.
